ST 5-speed - Somehwat underpowered at 1.8 liters, which causes you to drive more aggressively to get up to speed. Very few problems at 62,000 miles. Failed horn switch probably due to contact within steering wheel hub. Failed rear
window washer pump with virtually no use. Replaced rear hatch lifters twice - but use them everytime I use car. Poor aerodynamics above 85-90 mph car loses its excellent steering feel as air gets underneath. Not a quiet cabin. If run conservatively, below 4500rpm is basically bulletproof and will show little wear and tear. Above 4500 it screams anyways. I run it between 2200 and 3800 98% of the
time and is the most reliable car I've ever driven, with "very" precise though heavy steering. Turns 90 degrees hard and flat up to 45mph - above that does not have the torque to compensate for any loss of grip. Might have too low a roof if over 5'9". Excellent utility rear cargo space with rear seats folded down - no rear seat leg room. Still on original brakes and clutch - would prefer a
heavier clutch bite but is probably well matched to drive train. Stiff ride but well suited for superb handling. Probably not a car for long rides except all highway - requires a lot of shifting as the first three gears are very short. Fit in the rear portion of cabin is not quite up to it. Hood prop hold down gets brittle and breaks from engine heat. Replaced starter motor at about 55K - but i
do a lot of starts and very few long hauls. Typical road speed is 55mph.
